Funding The Farriers
Posted on October 26th, 2011 by Scott
Farriers are Rachel, Stephen, Gerry, Kate and Gareth; five footstompers from Northern Ireland who play upbeat, rootsy folk that you can jig about with a pint of stout to while your grandma taps an approving toe by the fireplace.
They’ve been writing and gigging relentlessly for the last three years and 2009 saw the release of their highly acclaimed EP ‘Coastlines’. Since then, friends and fans of the band have been waiting with bated breath for the album and the great news is, that wait is almost over.

With finances tight across the world, Farriers have taken the bold decision to crowdsource their latest record using the Sponsume website to encourage fans to support them in their efforts while offering all sorts of exciting rewards in return.

The 11 track album entitled ‘Years Ago In Our Back Yard’ had been recorded and with your help will be mixed, mastered and tucked into beautifully illustrated little packages ready to be distributed to the world this winter.
We asked Rachel Coulter, vocalist and guitarist with the band why they had decided to go with this new but increasing in popularity way of business:
The reason we have decided to go for crowdfunding is because it’s the perfect opportunity for people feel like they are a huge part of the album (which they truly are) and that we have the great pleasure of giving something in return.
Chief lyricist and resonator wielder Stephen McCartney adds:
The live gigs have always been so much fun, we really enjoy putting all our energy into playing, and the crowd respond in kind. This seemed like the perfect way of sourcing the needed funding. It’s also great to give a handful of people little personal bits and pieces of what we’ve been trying to do over the last while. Original lyrics sheets, hand drawn post cards, the kind of personal touch i really enjoy, and is so prevalent around the Northern Irish scene.
So if you can’t wait to get your hands on some new tunes from Farriers, grab some lovely free artwork and postcards or even have the band rock out in your living room then head on over to Sponsume and get involved now.
