Uncovering the deepest layers of her lived experience, “the genre’s smartest lyricist” (SPIN) raw and unvarnished like never before, Grand Ole Opry member and GRAMMY®, CMA, and ACM award winning singer-songwriter Ashley McBryde announces today her highly anticipated fifth studio album, Wild, out May 8 via Warner Records Nashville.
Produced by Lindeville collaborator John Osborne (Brothers Osborne) and recorded with her live band, Deadhorse, Wild provides another exhibit of “McBryde’s exquisite lyrical portraits of human vulnerability and the ragged ways we move through this world” (No Depression), tracing a captivating narrative that culminates in the moment just before McBryde quit drinking.
From the grit and grind of growing up in the shadow of Arkansas’s Ozark Mountains, to the enduring echo of her fundamentalist upbringing; the fallout of drinking too much and hard-won reckoning that led her to sobriety to the trauma passed down through her lineage. When matched with McBryde’s thrilling collision of timeless country and blistering rock & roll, the result is equal parts daring autobiography and courageous reclamation of her most untamed nature.
“When people hear this record, I hope it wakes up the part of them that I’m singing about in ‘Wild’—the part that still believes in those unrealized dreams and untaken risks,” says McBryde. “I believe that wild little kid is still alive inside of all of us, and that’s the version of everyone that I want to sing to.”
“Ashley McBryde is a rare gem,” producer John Osborne adds. “There are people out there with natural ability and there are people that dedicate every waking hour to honing their craft. Ashley is both. Never settling. Always reaching. The perfect combination of vulnerable and fearless.”
Wild is previewed by early releases “Rattlesnake Preacher,” “Arkansas Mud” and McBryde’s current single to country radio, “What If We Don’t” – the #1 most-added single of the week upon impact, earning McBryde the biggest add date of her career. Tomorrow, McBryde treats fans to another taste with brutal, bone-deep truth teller, “Bottle Tells Me So.”
