Bruce Springsteen Announces An Album of Soul Classics.

Two years on from 'Letter to You', Bruce Springsteen is back with a soulful bang.

Rumours of an impending album release have been doing the rounds for some time now, and fans worldwide will be delighted to hear the news of his new opus.

‘Only The Strong Survive’, is a covers album featuring 15 classics and some lesser-known soul songs from the 60s and 70s. Classics by such greats as Smokey Robinson Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, and The Supremes with Diana Ross, have been dusted down, and given Springsteen’s own spin on these soul legends’ work, with the help of long-time producer, Ron Aniello.

No E Street Band, it’s the voice of the Boss, front and centre.

In my own memoir, I gave my voice a little short shrift, by saying I didn’t think I had much of one, but after listening to some of the things we cut, I thought, My voice is badass!  I’m 73 years old, I’m kicking ass, I’m a good old man!

If the teaser video for the album, a blinding cover of Frank Wilson’s 1965 hit ‘Do I love you (indeed I do)’, is anything to go by, we are in for a real treat. With horns blasting, thumping drums, full backing vocals, and swelling strings, what’s not to love?

Intriguingly, Bruce also suggests he has a full album of other covers, which he ‘threw out’, before settling on a theme of sweet soul music

While most Springsteen fans would obviously, prefer an album of originals, this will do nicely until the man comes around on his long-awaited world tour, with dates in the RDS Arena, Dublin on the 5th, 7th, and 9th of May

‘Only The Strong Survive’ is released on Columbia Records on 11th November.
