Mama’s Broke Release New Single ‘Heaven’

Dark-folk duo Mama's Broke tackles the wealth disparity of the working class with new single 'Heaven'

‘Heaven’, the latest single from Mama’s Broke, offers a sharp critique of the “American Dream” and the burnout of modern capitalism. Arriving ahead of their new album this summer, the track encourages listeners to reclaim their time from a world obsessed with urgency and profit.  The band describes the song as a reaction to the false promise that hard work eventually leads to peace.

Instead, they point to a collapsing system defined by extreme wealth gaps, unliveable wages, and environmental decay. Ultimately, ‘Heaven’ is an anthem for stepping away from the grind to protect what—and who—you truly love.

Mama’s Broke was forged on the road—shaped by foot travel, street performing, and a deep immersion into the folk lineages of Eastern Canada, Appalachia, and Ireland. Long before they reached the studio, their sound was refined in nomadic communities where music served as a vital form of connection and currency.

The duo met within a global network of traveling musicians, trading melodies and stories to fund their journey. Years of playing for hours on street corners demanded a repertoire that was both technically disciplined and emotionally gripping, pushing them deep into traditional material and close-harmony singing.

Their music doesn’t settle in one single place; instead, it flows through these diverse traditions, using the folk language of the past to speak through their own collaborative voice
