It’s hard to believe that the Murphy brothers from Newry first achieved massive success with their debut record ‘Songs For The Tempted’ twenty-seven years ago. Hit singles ‘Mary’ and ‘Drag My Name Down’ still get regular air play on radio stations across Europe and secured the brothers a well-earned place in the history of Irish music.
They didn’t rest on their laurels, though. 1992’s ‘Man Alive’ also saw the band make Q Magazine’s Top 50 Albums of the Year and provided another hit in ‘She Hits Me’.
The last twenty-seven years have been kind to the brothers with their back catalogue being mined for soundtrack use by American, UK and Irish TV soundtracks.
28th October sees the release of their newest record ‘Sugar Island’ and the brothers have announced an extensive national tour to promote it with no less than six shows taking place across Northern Ireland between October 2016 and January 2017.
On first listen it sounds like the brothers are really on form and are at their creative best. Just check out the video below for the song ‘Going South’ and you’ll see what we mean.
