Folk & Tumble celebrates The Artemis II mission with a playlist of songs inspired by our heavenly neighbour

The Artemis II mission, which will last about 10 days, will take its astronauts further into space than anyone has been before. It will be the first time in more than fifty years than a crewed mission has left Earth for the Moon.

To celebrate this historic event, and to kill time on a wet and windy Sunday, we’ve put together a playlist of songs inspired, both directly, and indirectly the moon.

From the jazz soaked tones of Van Morrison, the protest angst of Gil Scott-Heron, Irish uprisings, bluegrass and country favourites, and ballads of love and loss.  Our extra-terrestrial companion has been a constant throughout the history of life on Earth, inspiring and guiding for millions of years.

The Artemis II mission will blast of in April and while we don’t know what playlist Nasa commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover and mission specialist Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency will be listening to, we wish them a safe and prosperous journey there and back again.
