‘White Feather’ is the first solo release from Cormac Neeson who’s best known as the front man of rock band The Answer. In a break from what fans of that band are used to, this record uses ten stripped back Americana/Gospel based and predominantly acoustic tracks to detail some very challenging changes in Neeson’s life.
The title track ‘White Feather’ allows the listener to experience not only the initial fraught experiences of dealing with premature birth, the joy of new life, medical diagnoses but, also the surrender of total love given to that life. ‘Broken Wing’ finds a family now at peace with their responsibilities and promising lifelong love and support to their newborn son.
As well as documenting challenging times, the record also has hope contained within on songs such as ‘Sweet Gentle Love’, ‘Don’t Wait Up For Me’ and ‘Oh Son’.
Overall ‘White Feather’ is a record that covers a lot of very personal introspective and difficult ground, but it does it in a very uplifting way. Neeson’s vocals and well-crafted songs suit the stripped back approach and indeed there’s a strong argument made here for him to make more music in this vein as he clearly has the not just the ability to produce powerful music, but also has a passionate soul that shines through.
‘White Feather’ is released on 26th April 2019 and Neeson begins an run of Irish tour dates on 16th May 2019 in support of the record with a special homecoming show in Belfast’s Black Box in aid of the charity Mencap on 24th May 2019.
