On her tenth studio album, ‘Growing Wild’, Yvonne Lyon teams up with songwriters and musicians Beth Nielsen Chapman, Julie Lee, Boo Hewerdine and Eddi Reader to deliver an album that mixes ethereal folk music with classic Americana.
The Americana-infused opening track ‘Winter Ground’ is a delightful tale based upon seasonal bird migration while human trans-Atlantic migration appears to be the inspiration behind the ballad ‘Sail On’. The Celtic folk-infused, up-tempo ‘Compass Hill’ features Eddi Reader on guest vocals.
‘Enough’ is subtle, but powerful in its strength, as under a brooding melody it delivers an uplifting message of strength and unity. The melodic title track, ‘Growing Wild’ uses the medium of nature to explore freedom and encourage self-expression.
‘Illuminate’, much like the rest of the album was written pre-pandemic, but if there was ever a song fated to help inspire and encourage people to find their way through COVID-19, then this is it.
Comprising of earthy Americana mixed with dreamy Celtic folk music, exceptional songs, and timeless melodies, ‘Growing Wild’ is an album rooted in the power and healing ability of the natural world – a timely reminder that after darkness light comes again.
