Garry Burnside, youngest son of legendary Hill Country bluesman R.L. Burnside, cut his teeth playing with his famous father and other siblings while growing up, beginning his professional career at the tender age of eleven. Garry spent his teens and twenties as the protégé, bassist and occasional guitarist for neighbouring Mississippi Blues legend Junior Kimbrough, with whom he toured and recorded.

Burnside has now stepped out of the shadows and released ‘It’s My Time Now’, his first solo record.

Burnside’s years of playing bass guitar, bring a fluidity to his guitar playing on the album, his style swings and grooves in a similar way to that of the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan, combine that with the influence of the late R.L. Burnside and his guitar style eases from straight blues, rock, jazz and swing.  A style that Burnside himself describes as “Hill Country with lil bit of funk”.

The highlights are many, including the title track, ‘Young Country Boy’ and ‘Ramblin’ and all three instrumental tracks ‘High’, ‘AGF Out’ and the incredible mood-setter, ‘Bad Luck City’.

‘It’s My Time Now’, is an album that shows an artist who has been soaking up influences and inspiration from the giants of the blues genre.  Garry Burnside may have taken his time getting to the point releasing his debut solo album, but it has been worth the wait and if this collection of music is anything to go by, he’ll be doing this for many years to come.
