It's hard to believe that 'Retrograde' by Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival is their first full length studio release.
Opening the album is the rocking ‘Light the Fire’. Hints of early Heart abound with the thundering guitar riff and Lyn’s soaring vocal. An attention-grabbing drum groove leads the listener into the sultry sound of ‘Do Bad things to You’ featuring a smouldering vocal from Lyn.
Lyn’s confident vocal style shines through on both ‘Baggage’ and ‘I Got His ’59 Cadillac’. Both songs taking a witty look at breaking up with a lover with a sting in the tail.
Backing Jennifer Lyn is a talented ensemble of seasoned musicians: Richard Torrance on lead guitar, Jim Anderson on drums, Barb Jiskra on keys, and Nolyn Falcon on bass. Musically the album is power house of classic blues rock tunes that are hard to forget. In between the solid rockers are heartfelt ballads such as ‘Soul Saver’ and ‘Refuge’, both songs allow the various band members to shine as they support the emotional range of Lyn’s vocal tracks.
With ‘Retrograde’ Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival have hooked into a classic sound to release a bombastic album that’s full of heartfelt blues and rocking anthems. Highly recommended
