'Manifest Good Things' is the fourth album from Louisiana-born, U.K. based songwriter and producer Kris Wilkinson Hughes
The album gets off to a flying start with ‘Up The Mountain’, its slide guitar and glorious harmonies supporting a moving song about love and resilience. ‘Heavy’ follows and could be the album’s big stand out moment a real earworm of a tune with some deep lyrics.
‘Teenage Geek’ captures the awkwardness of the young, ‘A Little Favour’ strips things back to piano and strings, and ‘Without You’ offers a tender meditation on partnership.
The record is a true family affair, featuring Kris’s husband Joe Hughes on bass and daughter Rue on vocals. As well as anchoring the project with her signature smoky vocals, She wrote, produced, and arranged the album, delivering a 1970’s sound that carries shades of Laurel Canyon.
The closing track, ‘Where Does The Rain Come From’, delivers a bittersweet, beautifully intimate and melancholic ballad.
Listeners will make comparisons the music of Joni Mitchell and Joan Armatrading, but Kris has developed a style entirely her own and ‘Manifest Good Things’ portrays an artist completely who’s comfortable in her life and with the experiences lived so far.
‘Manifest Good Things’ is a warm, soulful record that’s packed with beautifully observational songwriting.
