Mike Ross has had a busy and successful year. He released a solo record ,‘Jenny’s Place’ back in March and in November he was part of the RHR (Redfern, Huchtinson Ross) trio who released the acclaimed ‘Mahogany Drift’ record. And that doesn’t even begin to cover his almost constant gigging across the UK and Europe! Not one to rest on his laurels he’s just recorded a cover of the Stephen Stills classic ‘Love The One You’re With’.
It’s fair to say that it would take some nerve to cover such a well known classic and do it justice, but Ross has done just that. With a tight band behind him, he has turned the soul classic into an inspiring and revival driven southern blues, rock, and soul infused masterpiece. Melodic twin guitars and vibrant Hammond organ combined with Ross’ vocal and the backing vocals of Lorna Fothergill really take the song into new and exciting territory that’s both melodic and addictive.
Folk and Tumble have also had a sneak preview of Ross’s 2019 release and we predict that this very amiable gentleman is in for another busy and successful twelve months.
‘Love The One You’re With’ is released on Taller Records on 14th December 2018 on all digital platforms.
