Alex Lopez and backing band, The Xpress return with their latest blistering style of blues rock on 'Retro Revival '.
There’s nothing fancy or over the top about what Lopez does. Throughout his career his music has been down to earth, raw and energetic and ‘Retro Revival’ continues that run with another storming record.
From the opening notes of ‘One More Time’ through to ‘Keep on Living’, Lopez and backing band, the Xpress blast their way through an energetic record that pays homage to the classic sounds of the 1970’s across eleven original tracks.
‘Hey Little Sister’, is a classic blues rocker that’s guaranteed to get the listener on their feet, while the both ‘Your Lovin ’’ and ‘Angry’ featuring some fiery guitar work lean heavily into the influence of Led Zeppelin. The haunting slow blues of ‘When I sing the blues’ demonstrates Lopez’s ability to bend and hold a note and the Americana influenced ‘Keep on Living’ rounds out the collection with an Allman Brothers Americana styled ballad.
Combining classic elements of blues and rock music, ‘Retro Revival’ is strong album that’s hugely entertaining and one that sits comfortably alongside Alex Lopez’s already impressive back catalogue. Best played loud!
