Singer-songwriter and guitarist Sam Carter is an award winning musician who's career spans more than fifteen years. As well as his solo music career combined with guitar tutorials, he regularly plays live dates with folk collective, The Magpie Arc. His latest E.P., 'The Oakham Poacher, comes less than a year after his critically acclaimed album, 'Silver Horizon'.

From the first notes of ‘Now Is The Cool Of The Day’ Carters vocal carries the song with an air of authority as he embraces the spiritual and environmental undertones within the lyrics.  His deft guitar picking and strumming adds a hint of Americana to the Jean Ritchie classic and is comparable to the contemporary works and arrangements of similar classics by the Robert Plant led Saving Grace.

Another traditional classic, ‘The Oakham Poachers’ is delivered with a haunting melancholy as Carter sings the unfolding tale of harsh penal laws, oppression and deportation.

Based on the story of the biblical character of the same name, ‘Tubal Cain’ is another fine example of Carter’s wonderful guitar skills combined with his ability to captivate his audience with his vocal

‘The Oakham Poacher’ is a release that shines with depth and beauty across all five tracks.  From the choice of songs, to Carter’s vocal and playing, it serves as an easy introduction to the casual listener the the joys and depth of musical story telling, while folk aficionados will embrace it for the thing of beauty that it is.
