‘Tomorrow is a Bird’ is the seventh album by Giulia Millanta and the second that she co-produced with musician Gabriel Rhodes. Originally from Italy, Millanta, an accomplished guitarist and songwriter now resides in Austin Texas, and mixes her European influences with dreamy electric Americana.
The memorable groove of ‘Castle in the Cloud (Never Too Late)’ opens the album and is one of two songs co-written with Gabriel Rhodes; the second being ‘In a Dream’. While the former appears to inspire the listener to grab the moment, the latter is an ethereal piece about the creativity of dreams – just as inspiring is the melodic eponymous title track that finds encouragement in spontaneity.
Beautifully produced, the sparse electric sound of the album is crisp, clear, and vibrant and if Millanata takes this band on the road then the shows will be special. Hinting at classical influences in her music, the impressive work of Brian Standefer on cello is a personal highlight. The arrangements echo the work George Martin did with the Beatles; classical on ‘Castle in the Cloud (Never Too Late)’, brooding on the pensive ‘Animal’, and haunting on ‘Breathe’.
A lively and well-produced album, ‘Tomorrow is a Bird’ is an uplifting inspired melodic guitar-based treat.
