Veterans of the Canadian Folk music scene for more than ten years, West My Friend are about to release their most ambitious and complex collection of music to date. ‘In Constellation’ takes all the classic elements of Folk music and enhances them through new and exciting orchestral arrangements. Classic folk instruments, guitars, mandolins and accordion all sit comfortably alongside the full sound of a classical symphony orchestra, cleverly mixed and interwoven so that no instrument is lost or overpowered in the mix.
Classic themes of nature, life, love and death are explored across seven symphonic songs. Proving to be as crucial to the record as any physical instrument, Eden Oliver’s vocals rise and flow beautifully as she effortlessly switches between classic Folk ballads, Jazz swing and cinematic Pop. Highlights include the acapella ‘Fall Knows’, the Gershwin sounding ‘Old Song’, the harmonic ‘Build a Bed’ and the reflective ‘All these Things’.
With ‘In Constellation’ West My Friend have created a work of art that combines classic Folk instrumentation that’s layered with the melodic pop sensibilities of Burt Bacharach and the cinematic crescendos of Elmer Bernstein. The resulting record provides a euphony of sound that embraces the listener with warmth and vitality.
‘In Constellation’ is released on November 8th on Grammer Fight Records.
