Newman's musical destiny was sealed at just eight years old when he first heard Jimi Hendrix playing 'The Wind Cries Mary'. From that moment on, the blues of Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayall, and B.B. King became permanently etched into his soul.
Produced by Jon Grossbard of Feverbarn Recordings, ‘Wrath of Blues’ features an eclectic mix of thirteen masterfully chosen covers and one brilliant original track. Rather than simply mimicking his idols, Newman absorbs their legendary influences and filters them through his own modern, heavy-hitting style.
The record kicks off with a spine-tingling rendition of ‘Dust My Broom’, paying homage to the Elmore James classic version. Newman then shifts gears into a scorching slow-blues lament with his original track, ‘Leaving This World’, a powerful track detailing the agonizing heartbreak of lost love.
Other attention grabbing songs include BB King’s ‘The Thrill is Gone’, Albert King’s ‘Oh Pretty Woman’ and The Rolling Stones ‘Miss You’.
From reimagining acoustic icons like Bob Dylan to jazz-age standards by Hoagy Carmichael, the entire record is anchored by Bluwrath’s fiercely emotional and unyielding guitar stylings.
‘Wrath of Blues’ is the ultimate party album. Turn it up to eleven, crack open a beer and enjoy with friends.
