Today sees the release of the new album from Neil Young and Promise of the Real. ‘The Monsanto Years’ is a collection of songs with a slightly more contemporary sound but that classic Young delivery and attitude. The addition of a band featuring the likes of Willie Nelson’s sons Lukas and Micah only adds to the raw country feel.
Earlier in the year, Young was critical of what he deemed to be a vinyl fad.
A lot of people that buy vinyl today don’t realise that they’re listening to CD masters on vinyl, and that’s because the record companies have figured out that people want vinyl, and they’re only making CD masters in digital, so all the new products that come out on vinyl are actually CDs on vinyl, which is really nothing but a fashion statement.

So, in honour of Neil. Here’s a digital video for your Song of the Day and a reminder you can buy the album on CD. Of course, if you’re too trendy for that, there’ll be a vinyl release later in the month.
