April Verch – Bright Like Gold

April Verch may be in her second decade as fiddler, ste-dancer and songwriter but her ninth studio album ‘Bright Like Gold’ sounds fresh, graceful and all the better for the inclusion of touring bandsmen Cody Walters on clawhammer banjo and Hayes Griffin on guitar. From old Canadian medleys picked up in youth to traditional Appalachian tunes heard on the road, there’s a real fullness to this 2013 release although you somewhat miss the thrill of the intricacy of the fiddling and dancing on record.
