Dana Masters hails originally from the deep south in the United States of America and grew up on the sounds of soul, rhythm and blues and gospel. Her love for music developed as she grew and after studying vocal performance at college, her love of the form took her from South Carolina to Minneapolis, to Los Angeles and beyond until eventually she married an Irish man and called Northern Ireland home.
It’s been a long journey in terms of geography and musicianship but finally, 14th April 2016 sees the long-awaited release of Dana Masters’ debut album.
A chance meeting with Linley Hamilton in 2012 began the journey towards the final record and a weekly residency in McHugh’s Bar helped hone the sound. Regular vocal work with Van Morrison beckoned but it’s the jazz performers that make up the backbone of Masters’ band for album launch show.
Dana is still currently a member of Van Morrison’s live band and this show in The Mac will showcase her vocal duties with Linley Hamilton on trumpet, David Howell on saxophone, Johnny Taylor on piano and James Nash on guitar. The in-demand rhythm section of Gareth Huges on bass and Paul Hamilton on drums will be keeping beat at what’s sure to be a very special sell-out show.
Tickets for the 14th April in The MAC, Belfast are available now.
