Well, that’s Hallowe’en over for another year and as the final strains of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ fade to black, the moon rises and illuminates the road to Christmas. There we said it. Apologies for dropping that C-bomb but the fact is that decorations are already adorning lamp posts in towns across Northern Ireland and Primark is probably already stocked with naff jumpers, while DJs around the country dig out that Slade record once again.
Every now and again, however, you get a little batch of decent runners and riders in the Christmas single stakes. I’m looking at you Bright Eyes and Sufjan Stevens. First out of the blocks this year would appear to be The Dandy Horses.
This “nouveau-folk” five piece will be launching their latest single ‘A Winter Waltz’ in The Sunflower Bar, Belfast on Saturday 29th November 2014 and with tickets only £5, this could make for a great night out and a pleasing stocking-filler to boot.
‘A Winter Waltz’ is a song full of festive cheer and the warmth of the winter homecoming, lacking in saccharine-schmaltz and heavy on beautiful harmonies and arrangements of mandolin, whistle, and banjo. Taken from the upcoming album ‘Tales From Hard Luck Town’, your first chance to hear it live will be in The Sunflower’s intimate surrounds at the end of the month.
Get a big woolly jumper on, get a mulled wine in hand and get down to the launch of ‘A Winter Waltz’. Support on the night comes from The Sandrunners and local folk DJs.
