Northern Irish songwriter Duke Special has taken on something of a musical, spiritual and heartbreaking journey since we picked up a copy of the ‘Lucky Me’ EP back in 2003. Since then we’ve swung partners round dancefloors to the tunes on ‘I Never Thought This Day Would Come’ and shuffled drunkenly through more sombre offerings featuring the works of Ruby Murray and Hector Mann amongst others.
2014 sees a return to the Duke Special of old with the promise of a brand new album returning to that old school feel and promising to be perhaps the most easy accessible and instantly appreciated Duke Special offering to date. The studio work has been done and the record’s being mixed as you read this and once again the Duke, AKA East Belfast’s Peter Wilson, has offered fans old and new alike a chance to get involved through the Pledge Music incentive.
Head over to his page on Pledge Music for news of limited edition pressings, house shows, handwritten lyric sheets and an ambitious attempt to play a record number of shows in 24 hours. And if that’s not whetting the appetite for you, then remember that each item purchased in relation to this new Duke Special record will contribute towards the great work carried out by De Paul Ireland.
