These boys are No Oil Paintings
Brothers Sean and James Doone have been hammering out folk and bluegrass tunes on guitar, banjo and bass for four or five years as a two-piece with shows at the Omagh Bluegrass Festival and the Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon. In late 2013 they got together with Chris Kelly and Conor Pelan; two like-minded performers with a love of that old time appalachian feel music and No Oil Paintings was born.
Perhaps fortunately they’ve missed that window where everyone was touted as being the next Mumford and Sons but bands like Old Crow Medicine Show have proven that folk and bluegrass can stand the test of time and there’s certainly more to No Oil Paintings than belting out banjo riffs and stomping their feet. Mixing original material with old standards and crowd pleasers for the listeners at a cosy Sunday Sessions gig in Bangor’s Rabbit Rooms, they’ve won over a few new fans.

The addition of Bronagh Broderick on violin and vocals has given the band another literal string to their bow. Five part harmonies and finger-picking are the order of the day… Well, that and the chowder… and the Guinness.
