Singer songwriter Katie Melua has swapped packed out venues for packing a parachute as she jumps 13,000ft to show her support of the Royal British Legion’s new Poppy Picnics fundraising campaign.
The Legion carry out vital work with the Armed Forces and their families. The jump with the Legion’s Jump4Heroes extreme human flight team took place at Netheravon, the home of the Army Parachute Association.
“It was an incredible experience. Even though it wasn’t my first ever jump, it’s certainly my first ever picnic in the sky! I’m proud to be supporting Poppy Picnics for our Armed Forces and their families. With this fantastic weather, what better way to make a contribution than by turning your summer event into a Poppy Picnic to be proud of.”
If you don’t want to be as daring as Katie, you can still support Poppy Picnics by turning any summer event into a Poppy Picnic. The Royal British Legion spend £1.6 million each week providing social, emotional and financial care to the whole Armed Forces community – serving, ex-Service people, and their dependents.
