Malojian have been the rising stars of understated, Northern Irish, indie folk for a few years and alongside the likes of Jepettos and Ciaran Lavery have broken out of the Belfast centric scene and begun to make waves across the water. If you’ve tuned into BBC Radio Ulster, RTE Radio 2 or Cerys Matthews’ show on BBC6 Music this week, you’ve probably heard their latest record ‘Communion Girls’. If not, you can check out the beautifully animated accompanying video below.
A couple of years ago, the band released their debut long-player ‘The Deer’s Cry’ to critical acclaim, selling out the launch show in Belfast’s Crescent Arts Centre. This time around in advance of the release of ‘Southlands’, the band will play a doubleheader of incredibly intimate shows in Belfast’s No Alibis bookstore. No Alibis has long been a supporter of the music scene in Belfast and has played hosts to many great acts in recent years including Malojian themselves, who were inspired to name a track on ‘Southlands’ after the iconic Botanic Avenue shop.
You can join Malojian on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May 2015 to celebrate the launch of ‘Southlands’ although you’ll need to secure your tickets from No Alibis quickly as this one is sure to sell out well in advance.
