Introducing Dani

Another new act we've met at 2013's Belfast Music Week. Us fans of folk music are well and truly spoilt. Step forward Dani, a champion of the folk world.

Impossible to tie down to a genre or style, difficult to pin an age on, intriguing, beguiling and massively talented; that’s Dani.

Known only by the singular moniker, Dani is a singer songwriter who is fast scaling the heights of the scene across Ireland but with accomplished musicianship, mesmerising solos, heartbreaking vocals and massive riffs that would give Mumford & Sons cramp there is much more to this young talent than meets the eye.

Learning her trade on fiddle, whistle and mandolin, Dani is well versed in the traditional scene and draws heavily on it within her own repertoire incorporating some blues, Americana and dare we say a little bit of metal infused shredding on ‘For Jonah’, the closing track from ‘It Speaks for Itself’ her debut release from earlier in the year.

We caught up with Dani as she enthused about burgers, bands and the support of her fan-base across the island after opening for Farriers and Emerald Armada as part of this year’s Belfast Music Week. Other acts, punters and media alike have been taken aback by the huge performance from the relative newcomer to the scene. Mostly comprising tracks from her debut EP, it’s been a set highlighting the vocal range, raw emotion and guitar mastery that will undoubtedly become trademark traits.

It’s been yet another massive show in a year which has seen her play the Ulster Hall, Titanic Belfast, The Black Box and Empire Music Hall in Belfast alone. Her next show is in The Pavilion tomorrow night. We may well be there for another hit.
