Top Tips For Record Store Day

Folk and Tumble take a look at some of the best alternative and indie-folk releases being made available in independent retailers on Record Store Day 2013.

Tomorrow is Record Store Day. Indie stores across the country will be hiving with music fans keen to pick up some exclusive vinyl released exclusively to mark this great day.

If like us, you find yourself spending too many hours browsing and dithering over which lovely new EP or album to take home then let us do our best to help.

We’ve handpicked a John Cusack in High Fidelity style ‘all time top five releases for Record Store Day 2013’ so look no further!

Admiral Fallow – Tree Bursts In Snow

I’ve already got myself a signed copy of the ‘Beetle In The Box’ white label and this absolutely splendid album from last year would make a perfect accompaniment. Glorious Scottish indie folk.

Frightened Rabbit – Midnight Organ Fight/Quietly Now

The album that brought Glasgow’s Frightened Rabbit to the masses available on vinyl for the first time and as if that’s not enough it’s partnered with the live session as well. Get old fashioned!

Grizzly Bear – Horn of Plenty

It was albums like ‘Veckatimest’ that brought Grizzly Bear to our attention but we need to go way, way back to 2004 to listen to this record. Where it all began for one of our favourite acts.

The Leisure Society – Fight For Everyone

Having had somewhat mixed reviews, The Leisure Society’s latest album is a bit of a grower. Fight For Everyone is an instant pop hit though. Oh and it’s on coloured vinyl. Be still my hipster heart!

Shearwater/Sharon Van Etten – Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around

Jamming together on the road is a great place to spark the most brilliant ideas. This track was originally laid down by the legendary Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty. We can’t wait to hear this version.
