Born in Belfast and now living in London, vocalist and guitarist has taken the best of both great musical powerhouse cities to bring us the beautiful 60s folk-tinged ‘Dark Copper 7’. Like the thinking man’s Donovan, layering John Lennon vocal over Byrds harmonies and Elliott Smith inspired musicianship; this is a stripped back acoustic affair.
That’s not say it’s a simple album. The textures are rich, it’s well produced and the songs achingly crafted in the two years since Dominic O’Neill called it quits in Belfast and relocated to the UK capital. Every now and again there’s a little dynamicism with edgier guitar sounds that float somewhere between Revolver era Beatles and O’Neill’s old band The Delawares.
Launched in St Pancras Old Church on 15th August 2014, there’ll be a September show on his old stomping ground in Belfast later this month where the live show will surely augment the beautiful hypnotic melodies and swirling psychedelic moments.
