The Holly and The Ivy – Kate O’Callaghan

Donegal traditional folk singer Kate O'Callaghan has teamed up with husband Seamus Devenny for another seasonal festive favourite in 'The Holly and The Ivy'.

This is how they roll at Christmas in Donegal. Kate O’Callaghan and her husband Seamus Devenny come together with an uptempo, distinctly celtic twist on one of the most traditional festive ballads. Dating back to the 17th century, ‘The Holly and The Ivy’ brings together the symbolism of the pagan Winter Solstice and our more modern Christmas celebrations. Released through Andromeda Artisans, this is Kate’s second seasonal offering coming two years after her hauntingly beautiful ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’. This arrangement is much more upbeat, with delightful harmonies, driving guitar and the warmth of the old Irish fiddle. One to be enjoyed beside a crackling fire with a hot toddy.
