It's been around a decade since the world last had a new album from Irish singer-songwriter Luan Parle. In that time, there has been a smattering of singles, an EP, and TV appearances but 'Never Say Goodbye' is the first studio album since 2010's 'The Full Circle'.
It’s a slick Country-pop record that owes as much to the likes of Stevie Nicks as it does to Dolly Parton. That’s not to say Parle is in any way a carbon-copy or wannabe country star. As a performer, she’s been doing the rounds in her native Ireland from the age of 9 years old, dropping her debut album at the tender age of 12.
‘Never Say Goodbye’ sees Luan Parle share songwriting duties on two tracks with Dire Straits guitarist Hal Lindes. ‘Change Your Mind’ in particular features a riff that edges on the rockier side of Americana but this is first and foremost a country record.
Parle’s vocal mastery and songwriting skill are pushed to the fore. ‘Falling For You’ is a straight-up country classic with a whiskey-swigging swing. It’s right out of the Patsy Cline playbook and marks one of the more tender moments on the new record.
‘Fare Thee Well’ ticks all the boxes of Irish-Americana, nestled somewhere between Arklow and Arkansas. Lead single ‘My Something Beautiful’ has already enjoyed a time skirting the top of the iTunes chart in Ireland and opens the album in style. You can enjoy each track with a live band as Luan Parle continues her tour of the Emerald Isle throughout the spring of 2020.
Check out ‘Never Say Goodbye’ for surefire songwriting, soulsearching, social commentary, and sweet, sweet country tones.
