High – Rum Hogs

The Rum Hogs are a new find on a well worn Belfast scene, lacing edgy Americana vibes over delicate country grooves. Think Danny and the Champs with broader accents.

AT Folk and Tumble we enjoy a good tune and a good rum. We’re not alone in these indulgences as this dynamic Irish three-piece proves.

The Rum Hogs haven’t exactly burst onto the scene; separately they’ve been around for years, gigging every conceivable venue in most possible guises of band. Tight musicianship and camaraderie to the fore, the threesome joined forces last year in Belfast and they’ve taken their sweet time pouring over their debut release with sweet results.

We had enough songs for a single, and EP, and an album in just a few short weeks. Yet we spent months on the recording process because a) we didn’t have a boss to answer to, and b) we enjoyed the hell out of every minute and didn’t want to ever stop.

Embracing that country punk ethic that I’m rather partial to, The Rum Hogs are all Americana clobber, well-inked arms and rum worn vocals. All old punks grow old gracefully eventually, swapping electrics for acoustics and relishing in a whole new genre of three chords and the truth. If you like Danny & The Champions of the World, The Eastern or anything on the edgier side of Americana folk you’ll probably quite enjoy ‘High’ from The Rum Hogs.
