Sam Wickens is a powerful, soulful singer and songwriter. He’s drawn comparison to artists from Jeff Buckley to Bon Iver – no mean feat for one so young. To our ears, the native of Bangor, Co. Down owes much to neighbouring artists like Foy Vance or David C Clements. There’s something in that sea air for sure.
We’re not the only fans of this artist, still in his early twenties. This performance of ‘Oh Mother’, played at Tennessee famous The Factory at Franklin, beamed into 60 million US homes. If that’s not convincing enough, the rendition drew praise from Jim Lauderdale and Sonia Leigh from the hit show ‘Nashville’.
Sam Wickens’ debut EP ‘Send Me’ is out now on Dootdoot Music.
