Who is Tommy Ramone?
Tommy Ramone, born Erdélyi Tamás was of Hungarian Jewish descent and grew up for the most part in Forest Hills, NYC where he jammed with guitarist and friend John Cummings. The two would later change their names to Tommy and Johnny Ramone, playing drums and guitar for The Ramones. Commercially they were relatively unsuccessful but were pioneers of the punk scene.
I want to hear more.
Tommy Ramone played drums from 1974 to 1978, stepping in to take over from Joey Ramone on the debut record ‘Ramones’. Throughout the band’s career he went on to produce many other records behind the scenes under his birth name of Thomas Erdélyi. A copy of ‘Hey Ho Let’s Go – Anthology’ serves as a fine memory of his drumming and production abilities.
Tommy Ramone died after battling bile duct cancer on 11th July 2014.
